Chhasch his inimitable style, Vance narrates ciy eventful tale of Adam Reith, a stranded Earth astronaut, marooned on Tschai, a world where all humans are slaves to aliens and the societies are ridiculous.
Soon another space ship approaches so the Blue Chasch and their Chaschmen hide themselves and their sky-raft. All four hardcover volumes in the Tschai Planet Of Adventure sf series, originally published as four Ace paperback originals between – Jun 12, Chris Gager rated it really liked it.
Hte mismatched trio join a trade caravan. I highly recommend reading all four novels in the series, preferably in order because the continuous storyline. Ylin-Ylan attracts his attention; she and Traz are taken prisoner, forcing Reith to organize a revolt to overthrow the tyrant. At first, my thought was that Vance had surrendered to the John Carter space fantasy genre by evoking the classic trope of the female soulmate.
His other fantasy series, Lyonesse, is just wonderful. Very Good; Light reading creases and edge wear.

To one side of the ‘Explorator IV’ flared a dim and aging star, Carina ; to the other hung a single planet, gray-brown under a heavy blanket of atmosphere.
The imagery is provocative, vivid and atmospheric, with locales ranging from windy steppes and ruined cities to dark critter infested jungles. Vance wastes little time establishing this setting and then he leads the reader on a theme park ride of high adventure.

Adam Reith then witnesses the gruesome death of his partner while suspended from a tree in his parachute, where he remains for days until some rather antagonistic, tribal humans cut him down and take him as a slave, but not until after he watches some blue chitinous aliens make off with his scout vessel.
Pages have some foxing but text is clean and unmarked. Fortunately he has casch luck than the other scout and they help him down from the tree and adopt him as ciyt servant. The two scouts are able to repair the damages enough to crash-land on Tschai.
That cover is the same as the one I bought…. Yet Tschai is a Jack Vance creation, which for me means that the pupil is surpassing the teachers Burroughs and Chasfh in vision, prose, exuberant worldbuilding and chaotic action.
Having said that, it is a great read, I was not disappointed at all, quite the opposite. He makes friends — a Dirdirman, a primitive human, etc. Want to Read saving…. I recommend starting with the first book and reading all four. Shows some signs of wear, and may have some markings on the inside. No trivia or quizzes yet. This tale sets itself apart from the typical golden age pulp by being published in the late sixties, at a time when Science Fiction was becoming more realistic and cynical by the day, and the gritty edge chqsch both plot and presentation attests to that.

Make Araminta Station available for all the listeners out there who love Jack Vance and for those who still have the joy of discovering him xity in front of them! Subsequent novels in the series involve his encounters with other civilizations thw the planet Tschai. I would say the “Planet of Adventure” books are suitable for young-adults, although with some reservations about the levels of gore and the explicit, almost casual killing spree that marks the path taken by Adam Reith through Tschai in blood.
